Keltstone finds its home in Center Parcs Forest

The Challenge

To provide a robust and traditional finished masonry product to compliment the forest surround of the park. The project required the construction of 470 chalets and 30 apartments within a program schedule of 18 months.

The product would have to accommodate the vision specified by the architect.

The product would have to be sympathetic to the timber frame chalet construction and suitable for apartment construction.

The product would have to be available to suit the ambitious project timeline.

The product would have to provide an aesthetically pleasing design which compliments the forest environment of the buildings.

The Solution

Roadstone provided 12,000m2 of Keltstone Walling (Sandstone) for the exterior wall of the chalets and apartments. Keltstone is a unique masonry product which recreates the look of traditional Irish stone. The Keltstone was built to a random bond to maintain the look of natural stone. Roadstone also supplied 750m2 of Keltstone slips for below windows. These were 25-30mm thick and fixed to timber supports for ease of installation.

Roadstone provided full technical support for the Keltstone including product presentation by Roadstone’s  National Technical Manager (Thomas Holden) and “how to” videos on construction of Keltstone walling.

In the most natural of settings the sandstone colour of Keltstone sits comfortably alongside timber cladding, deep within the forest. The product compliments the forest and is a fantastic example of the products versatility.

Takeaways

Ensure that a sample panel is built so the masonry can be seen as it will be constructed.

Careful scheduling of delivers should be undertaken by both parties (pre-construction) to ensure program goals can be achieved.
