Naas Playground – Enhancing Community Spaces with Ultracolour Asphalt

As part of a new housing development in Naas, a modern playground and ball court area were designed to serve as a vibrant, family-friendly space. The project required a coloured surfacing solution that would complement the sleek architectural design of the surrounding homes while also delivering long-term durability and environmental performance.

The key challenge was to provide a visually appealing coloured surface that would enhance the playground’s aesthetic and blend seamlessly with the development’s overall design. Additionally, the ball court required a Sustainable Urban Drainage System (SUDs) solution to manage water runoff effectively and support the sustainability goals of the project.

Solution

Roadstone delivered a tailored surfacing solution using its Ultracolour asphalt range:

  • A high-performance SUDs surface was installed in the ball court area to aid drainage and reduce surface water accumulation.
  • A buff/beige SMA mixture was used for the pathway areas, chosen for its warm tone that harmonizes with the soft play zones and surrounding landscape.

The mix incorporated:

  • Clear binder for enhanced colour visibility
  • Buff aggregates for texture and strength
  • Superior coloured pigment for a consistent, long-lasting finish
